‘A Personal Collection of Vivienne Westwood Shoes’ exhibition

York Castle Museum

A Personal Collection of Vivienne Westwood Shoes showcases the designer’s iconic footwear throughout the years, including footwear dating back to the 1970s and a pair of platform-heeled super elevated Gillie shoes, which model Naomi Campbell famously took a tumble in on the catwalk in 1993.

To complement A Personal Collection of Vivienne Westwood Shoes, Dame Vivienne Westwood herself selected shoes from York Castle Museum’s own historic collections, from 18th century to the present day.

We worked with York Castle Museum to produce a layout for the exhibition that made best use of the space available. We were also responsible for design of all graphic panels and installation of these panels in the exhibition space.

As there were two strands to this exhibition – the Vivienne Westwood collection and the Museum’s own collection – the panels needed to look suitably similar and consistent but also show the clear difference between the two parts of the exhibition. The Vivienne Westwood panels had a modern and edgy feel to them, with the Museum’s own collection panels having a slightly more traditional look.

It was a pleasure to be part of such an exciting exhibition.
