Monsters: The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly was shown at The Word, South Shields from March 2018 to January 2019.
Created to mark the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley’s Gothic horror story, Frankenstein, the exhibition allowed visitors to get up close to a vast display of creatures, from the beasts of early mythology to the modern, digital creations of Pixar and Disney.
Not only could visitors meet Boris Karloff’s classic movie monster – based on Shelley’s novel – in Dr Frankenstein’s lab, but they could also see what it feels like to be held by King Kong and take a selfie with Sulley from Monsters, Inc.
Monsters from Hollywood’s golden age, such as Dracula, Wolf Man and the Mummy, made an appearance and there were monster-themed interactive games and the chance to watch clips from some famous monster movies.
We worked closely with South Tyneside Council to create an immersive family-friendly exhibition that would appeal to all ages, and be fun as well as educational.
Sheridan Design were responsible for the curation, design, build and installation of the exhibition. Interactive elements such as Sulley and the King Kong hand were produced in-house by our talented team.
Steering away from the usual vinyl or foamex exhibition panels, we chose to print directly on to wood to create a more tactile and warm feel to the space.
